Why are Discovey springs a different size?

Sorry if this is a silly question but I have read several threads now which describe Discoverys as having differnt size springs o/s and n/s, can anyone explain why this is?

The vehicle's centre of gravity isn't dead centre, hence needing different springs to make it sit straight.
