Thanks for getting back to me...
Since the first message I have cleaned off anything loose and waxed the complete underside. The chassis has been filled too. I do intend to do this every 6 months or so. I suppose I'd rather spend weekends preventing problems than curing them!! As it's only 6 years old there is very little rust anywhere...small amount around the drivers door hinge and along the drivers door lower edge seems to be the sum total for now. Don't talk to me about water in footwell though!!! Can't believe how hard it is to locate....you had same problem I assume? You got a name for your resident spider?
