Just had a lovely drive back from wales - across the Elan Valley with a couple of excursions from the main road ;-)

12 midday - In a great mood, sun shining - good sounds on the stereo - decided to pull over in Leominster for fuel, did my usual trick of jamming the fuel filler in the trigger and left the pump running to fill up while I cleaned all the crap out of the passenger footwell - went and paid for the 60 litres I had put in and was just about to turn the key when I glanced at the reciept - agggggghhhh Unleaded!!!!! - fortunately I didnt start the car but it is now sitting at Hereford Land Rover waiting to have the tank drained and whatever else LandRover decide need doing before charging me like a wounded bull!!! - took me 4 hours to sort out a hire car, fortunately I managed to blag a Disco TDV6 jobbie (what a lovely drive!!!!! - dont tell em I said that mind :) )

Anybody else been stoooopid enough to pull the same stunt as me and any ideas of what the cost will be???

Cheers

Stu

wont be a problem. . . . .syphon tank. . .fill it wiv doosle un start it ,any petrol will only mix, i have known doosle drivers who regularly put petrol int tank in cold weather, mind you other way round and that would be a problem. . . . .:)

dealers will charge you the earth to do this, they reckon they will have to clean yer fuel lines, and clean yer tank out. when i worked for the aa we had a list of authorised garages that woukld do the job for around 130 quid. they have to get rid of the fuel legally as it is classed as contaminated and needs disposing of properly. sorry to be the bearer of bad news but i reckon they will want about 400 quid. let us know how you get on ;)

I pulled into a Shell station recently only for a Jaguar XJ driver to screech to a halt at the pump, jump out in a mad rush still on his mobile, he then put a tennis ball under the handle and sat back in his car while it put £95 of fuel in his car.
When he got out i enquired how long the XJ range had a Diesel engine, he was correct when he said it didnt (Only the X and S types do) for now anyway.
V8 Twin Turbo diesel rhumoured to be coming.

His face was a picture, it turned out the on site mechanics who have a place around the back have drained his tank on 2 other occasions for the same problem, £50 cash they charge him to drop it and they then use the fuel in their pick up lorry.

My mate was charged £600 by VW for draining his Tourag but he did drive it 30 miles after filling it with petrol.

....friend of mine's wife [apparently] put petrol in a TDV6 Disco3 and ran it about 600 yards. The insurance had to pay out £4k for all new engine parts to a main dealer. Doh!

For the record it was one of our managers wives and it is the second time that she has trashed his company car by putting petrol in a Diesel. The other one was a 1.9 TD Ford Galaxy.

Well the nice people at Hereford Land Rover charged me £163 to drain and clean out and fill up with diesel - could have been much worse I guess. It has left me with a big problem though - I just love the Disco 3 they lent me for the weekend - great on the road and even better on the muddy stuff I was grinning for ages after - give it 12 months and I will be on the look put for one I reckon

hmmmmm, from, not better - made me realise that the hippo is pretty much the same size as a 'normal' car - the disco3 seems bloody huge in comparison!!

That said - you seen the price of em??
