Hi I was wondering , was showed a log book for a 130 that was imported in 1994. It just said landrover no model ect it has been imported modified , was this what they did back in 1994 ie no iva ect? I have no idea so I thought I would ask here for more knowledgeable people , I have never seen a v5 like that before.
 
It doesn’t have to be a long time ago for minimal info.
I have a Land Rover registered in 2019. Date of manufacture 1993.
Model - unknown
Engine number - unknown
Engine size and fuel correct.
Almost everything else n/a
It doesn’t cause me any issues!

iva is only applicable after the year 2000 or something.
 
Oh so pre 2000 you could basically do anything to a landrover before the iva thing. Funny if you put his reg in insurance company quotes you get multiple options for what it is ie a 90 a 110 a discovery ect

But it depends what you are asking.
When registering older vehicles for the first time in the uk. If it is actually what is declared then it appears to all work fine. But, with an import it will be a genuine vehicle with paperwork saying what it is - nova normally.
If it is old you get a proof of vehicle by someone, club or something.
If an ex military, like mine, you have the release paperwork.
If you want to register some pile of bits then it will get a Q reg and require an iva.
 
No this was imported into the uk already modified in 1994. I though that's why it's model ect was missing. I was really asking what did they do pre iva ect. This has had a uk log book for 30 years

Registering is a bit random, it is a manual process for imports I would think.
My guess, but I have only registered 4 or 5 vehicles, if the right word isn’t in the right box then it probably isn’t in some drop down menu. If the person in dvla doesn’t have to fill the box in, then they leave it blank.
If they are having a bad day then they might just return the paperwork.
In your case ? Are you saying the vehicle was modified, say from a 110 to a 130 when abroad?
If that is the case, then I would say it should be on a Q plate and go through iva.
But that is my view, based on some back street modifier and it no longer having the original chassis.

Yes I think it was something like that but that was pre iva. The was no iva test so is that how the log book ended up like that just make and engine number. I think years ago you could put a defender body on a range rover classic and just mot it and that was it in the 1990s. I think , I don't know that why I was asking. Example how do the dvla identify a car that was made a hybrid in the 1990s , I though that why the book was like that. Now adays we have the iva ect so that's how you would id just curious if anyone knew what happen back in the 1990s. If no one knows it does not matter, just when I went for an insurance quote on his reg you get options for every tdi landrover ever made , the the dvla telling the companies this is what it might be lol

If the v5 doesn’t have a model listed, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a legitimate vehicle.
When the Q plates came in, I would guess it was in the 80s that I registered a Q vehicle, you told them what it was and they sometimes came and had a look, but probably just believed you.
The insurance web sites aren’t something to worry about if they don’t know all the answers. Most allow you to specify whatever you have on older vehicles. I don’t know for newer vehicles as I don’t have one, and I don’t usually use them.
What matters in my view, is if the Vin matches what the vehicle is. If it doesn’t then you need to make sure you tell the insurance company if the vehicle has been altered.
The iva for a Q registration probably came in at the same time as for new cars. But I don’t know that, just an assumption.
But you also need to understand that earlier Land Rover 127s and possible 130s all had 110 chassis numbers.
In the factory a 110 chassis was used and cut in half and an extension welded in along with a couple of strengtheners.
 
Oh, and the body isn’t one of the main factors as far as dvla are concerned..
If you put a defender body on a range rover chassis, but keep all the other range rover components you can keep the range rover v5. But definitely can not use the land rover v5.
