jp im a welder by trade if you can get the 3 other bolts out mate then a chisel in somewhere behind that propflange the weld will rip mate ...then youll have to grind out the bit that gets left on.... asfor changing the bearings to eliminate the noise.... i found my bearing noise was directional ( ie the noise came from that particular bearing and didnt transmit...like prop/diff probs do) i think my next one after mot is to find my prop noise.... i think its the front output bearing.... im pretty sure theres a repair thread by buster.....

UPDATE!

Ok... so after 2 monhts stoped for welding and stuff I took the disco out for a spin..

While out and driving around, I holded the diff lever and pulled it towards me and the whirring noise changed tone...

So, can we assume the problem is in the transfer box?

remember I did that test of sticking transfer in neutral and go through all the gears on the gearbox and I didnt get the whirring noise...

if it's transfer box, what is it likely to be?

Could just be output bearings, supposed to be a relatively easy fix.

Sorry, only done a series, many moons ago. I guess the principle's the same, just the details different .. I think the Disco input shaft has taper roller bearings that need to be shimmed up correctly, and a mainshaft that can wear. This is the one that should (I believe) be cross-drilled for better oil splash .. if it isn't done it can wear prematurely.

'course, I might be wrong, but someone who knows might be along in a bit .. ;)
