Good morning you nice lot of landy zone type people..:D

I wondered if i could trouble you for a little advise on this fine thursday morning..

When brought my 2000 model td5 it had a whinning in 5th gear when i get to about 50mph but thought i can live with that wont be going much faster anyway....

But now i seem to have developed a clunking noise sometimes when i change into 2nd and 3rd not always thou which is strange  sounds a little like the prop shafts, but ive checked them and there solid no movement at all...

So my question is?? Gear box problem or could it be a transfer box problem??
Should have also added it only happened after using the low box on my last laning trip, suppose i could be something total different to what i'm suggesting.... but its def happening when changing gear and putting the power down...:)

Thanks in advance :boom:

You got one of the best helpin you listen carefully.there are a few others also probably can count them on your fingers, and alot of try this and i read that out there. good luck.

James will keep you on the right path.

Okey smokey thanks for that guys... i shall be draining the oils on this very weekend... keep you posted to how much this bloody repair costs... :(

The play seems to be in the front dif and were the prop goes into the transfer box, prop and uj's seem solid but not the front axle or the transfer box... mmmmm lost...

i would start with drive flanges on axle theres no lube there on td5s and often rusty/worn ,its easier with 2 people so one can rock vehicle with clutch, try vehicle with front prop off, check end float on front diff flange, you can put t/box on neutral and working through gear keep dropping clutch quick listen for clunk in t/box ,as a rule of thumb if removing front prop makes it better prob front prop/axle ,rear prop of and makes it better ,rear prop or axle ,the same t/box or g/box,where checking oil helps ,you can check center diff by removing both props and feeling at same time smooth or rough rotation and excess play between the two

Don't surpose you were I can get one from do you buddy! And how difficult are they to fit... I do a search in the morning for a fit diagram!! Thanks again!

Sorry buddy was using my phone to access landy zone... back on my computer now.. So if im getting you i should start with changing the front axle drive flanges?
I'll pop some pictures on tomo showing were i think the knocking is coming from.... see what you think if thats ok..

As im looking at it you have the transfer box front prop then axle.... slight play if i twist the prop both ways about half inch to a inch.. but the play seems to be in the transfer box and front axle... like i say i'll pop some pictures up tomo... cheers
