Whining noise

hi all I have a 05 td4 automatic and recently I have started having problems with a whining noise. The noise only happens in either one or two situations. First one after she goes into forth gear I get the loud whining noise but if I ease off the accelerator and go back on it disappears or got goes quite. If I don't ease off I get the eml and code P0046. The second one happens when going up hill at about 2500 revs and about 45mph again ease off and the noise either quitens or disappears. If left again eml and code p0046. Each time I get the eml on the car loses all power.
Also going to add in January I replaced all injectors and in February all the turbo hoses.
Sometime last year the turbo was rebuilt too.

Any ideas?

Various talk, then given that the OP does some investigation and finds the problems in post #28. I recon you'll find some/all of those faults are causing your problems.

The first place to check is the elbow boost pipe. These split and are hard to spot.
It definitely sounds like your boost pressure is leaking away.

It's not a pipe or hose as these were replaced in February with silicone ones.

Why can't it be them? Stuff is more likely to fail when its new due to manufacturing faults.

You need to check that post above - which includes the hoses.

It's not a hoses as I had all the news ones off again this morning including the one at the bottom of the engine on the drivers side. All the pipes are fines.
Pcv or crankcase filter was changed in November last year along with oil filter air filter and oil change.
EGR is my next step and I'll take it off in the morning and if chocked up I'll clean it up with carb cleaner and the wire brush.
And yes I have read the post above.

If all everything else fails to provide a satisfactory cure, including the vacuum pipes. Then it's time to start looking at the turbo itself. The turbo would generally be the last item to check, as they are pretty reliable.

Check your turbo vent filter isn't blocked, hangs down the back of the engine, sort of left of middle.
Vacuum pipe at bottom of engine bay, you'll need to remove the sump guard.
You can also check the actuator whist your under there.
Have a good look at your plastic manifold for hairline cracks or signs if damage. And the plastic vacuum reservoir.
I know you've checked the new hoses, but are the jubilee clips nice and tight, not bent or worn. No old bits of rubber hose stuck on the pipes?
And lastly, is the noise definitely coming from the engine bay?

Just had the EGR off. It's caked right up and the plastic thing it connects to is too is caked right up. Going to clean them up best I can for now. And when money is a little better get her booked in for a terraclean.
I believe the noise is coming from the engine bay. I did manage to get a video this morning of the noise.
If it comes down to the turbo I have one sat in the shed that's been rebuilt.

Can't be the turbo, that was rebuilt last year

Don't waste your money on Terraclean. It won't clean the inlet manifold and it's fuel cleaning ability is very temporary.
The only way to clean the inlet manifold, is to remove it and clear the goop out manually with scrapers and solvents. An old hacksaw blade and an over night soak in kerosene will soften it up. Then scrape the remnants out and finally swish it out with petrol. This sounds a pain, but it's cheaper than any other method and actually works. Treatments like Terraclean don't work.

So carb cleaner it is then!! Last night after taking the EGR off and having a feel inside the plastic thing it connects to the build up in there was really soft and easy to come away whereas the EGR build up was harder and tougher. Getting some carb cleaner later today so when my kids go to bed I'll take them off and make a start.

Can I ask, with a bad build up of the black gunk wouldn't I have had black smoke either on start up or whilst driving. I've never had black smoke come from her. Only white smoke on start up when she really cold.

Have to agree with @Nodge68 on the terraclean. The couple of guys I know who've had it done have sung it's praises initially, but a couple of days later have said it's no different.
A good clean out manually, then a tank of decent fuel and a good blast will work better.

The build up of gunk will restrict airflow and cause the egr to malfunction. Doubtful it would cause any smoke as excess airflow or a faulty fuel system causes smoke.

When I cleaned the Plenum, between EGR and manifold, on my L Series, the gunk was pretty soft and came out fairly easily. Whether the engine smokes is all down to how much fuel the ECU decides to put into the engine - that will be governed by what it sees going through the MAF - as the MAF flow will be restricted by the gunk build up it won't over fuel and therefore won't produce smoke.

Once you clear the airways, more air will go through the system and more fuel pumped in - so you should see improvements in performance.

Carb cleaner is a very wasteful way to clean the inlet manifold. IP doesn't really dissolve the oily goop before it evaporates off. Petrol is much cheaper and more effective than sprays containing IP.

Having a restricted manifold doesn't generally cause smoke. However it does affect performance massively, as air can't flow in freely.

I use Mr Muscle oven cleaner, amazing stuff, cleans it in an hour or so. Just make sure you rinse it thoroughly.
