I´m getting crazy!!
My 2005 has a whining sound from ?????
I´ve changed :Turbo, transfer box, main gear box, front diff ,and wrapped a bellhousing blanket around the BH.
It´s still whining !!!!!
the sound Changes with revs , could it be something in the engine??
Or could it possible com from the rear axle ??
it only occurs when driving , and is at it´s peak around 90km/h (living in Sweden, sorry about my English)
Anyone with a good idea???????

´Shouldn´t it be noisy when the Engine is running, but the LR is parked?
And shouldn´t it be black around the manifold if there was a leak?

you asked for ideas, i gave you one, deciding if its the right idea is upto you, but it generally only does it when the engine is on boost, and when its stationary, even revving it does not put a lot of boost through it

If it changes with revs in different gears then it is probably engine related, if it changes with speed (and is the same in any gear) then it is probably transmission (gearbox/transfer box/props/axles etc).

You could also get up to speed, put it in neutral and see if the whine goes, if yes its probably engine, if not probably transmission.

It goes when l put in neutral , and as l said ,I´ve spent a fortune on changing
Transmission parts, as the transfer box, main gear box and front diff.
The only end I have done nothing about is the rear axle

If it goes when in neutral then it is probably engine related, have you looked at things like alternator / water pump / viscous fan / belt tensioners etc?

Nope , will have to go through all of that (myself), belived so called experts , people inte LR buisness, about the transmission , and that went well, NOT!!
A strange thing though , it has´nt changed to the worse over the 20000km since I first noticed it , Someone in the swedish Land Rover club , adviced that l should change the gearbox and engine fixings(?) , perhaps new rubber will isolate the whine from the cab.??

So if you drop the clutch at 90 km/h it goes? if so, it's before the gearbox (ie engine) if it stays, it's after the gearbox.
