whine at 60 - 70 mph

Hi again.

I still have a whine on my p38 4.0 litre petrol, I have changed the front diff but it has made no difference.

I noticed that on the motorway at 65 ish when I took a bend the noise and vibration increased as I went around a left hand bend and decreased around a right hand bend.

I have jacked all 4 wheels off the floor and accelerated to 60 - 70 mph and no noise at all!

Could it be a wheel bearing? the whine is accompanied by a vibration that can be felt through my feet and the steering wheel.

Getting fed up now

would sound like rh wheel bearing ,check v/c at the same time

I know I am going to sound thick but what is a v/c? apart from a Victoria cross!

viscous coupling ,jack one front wheel up and try and turn it with a 2ft bar and socket

ahhhhhhhhh thank you for the tip I am very new to all this.

Is the o/h in vehicle at time? They have been known to whine at almost all speeds

Half shaft or bearing??

I am not missing the point at all. If you have the experience you can listen and 9 times out of 10 locate and diagnose the problem. If you don't have the nous the only time you will know something is wrong, with say a wheel bearing, is when the wheel falls off. Simples.

Didn't work here then that's one dif changed, only one dif left and four wheel bearings

Only way to tell properly is to wheel free it and run then use a stethoscope.

Could the whining be the wife/girlfriend?

The whining is much louder when the wife is in the car! It drowns out the noise of the car!
