which wheel bearing?

trying to get a new wheel bearing from paddocks, but i dont know which to get, theres a choice of:

wheel bearing inner to 80/81
wheel bearing outer to 80/81

wheel bearing from 80/81

my series 3 was registered in june 1980 so which one to i need to get?

i need to order soon so anyhelp asap would be much appreciated!

Ever the problem when owning a car that was made close to a parts change-over date!

The only RELIABLE way to get the right bearings is to find out what's in there right now. It may be worth a partial strip-down NOW so you can do the next bit, and you should be able to read the bearing number without taking the bearing out - just open it up enough to see the side-rim of the bearing track:-

Once you can see an outer bearing rim, you can clean it up and you should be able to get BOTH the maker's name and their bearing reference number. After that it's a quick Yellow Pages call to the nearest bearings supplier. They are needed in pairs, so remember to ask for two for each side!

i would take it apart to find out but my cars not with me at the moment, im away from home! so i anyone knows that would be great...

RTC3537 HUB BEARING & SEAL KIT SER.3 OCT80-84.

RTC3416 (inner) and RTC3426 (outer) is for pre 1980 S3s

expect to pay 25 quid per wheel for a OEM kit - or 12 quid for a set that uses malteasers as bearings

i would buy the 2 you tight arsed begger, that way you know both bearings are right for a while,if 1 is worn the chances are the other 1 as had a bit of grief aswell

I would go with buying the two aswell. I had a drivers side front wheel bearing blow in the outside lane of the M5 - scary shoite! The car wanted to go right even tho I was trying to point it in the direction of the hard shoulder.
