So

I have a 1987 RRC with the 3.5 V8 and an auto box.

My engine has a terrible vibration, I've taken it to my local specialist who thinks its either the flywheel/flex plate or something internal to the engine.

I dont see the point of pulling everything apart just to swap the flexplate or flywheel, so thought I would like to swap the engine for something a little more pokey.

What should I be looking at???

3.9, 4.0, 4.2, 4.6????

I guess i'm looking for ease of fitment and less reliability issues.

Any thoughts??

Cheers

Steve

I am so keeping an eye on this thread. I am two days into owning my 90 and I bought it with the aim of plumbing in a V8... Bit which one??!! And why do so many go auto?

NG if you want a small one I've got a spare 3.5, needs a new HG and I need the space so you can have it for near enough sweet feck all if you want to collect it. It'll have a newish clutch and all the other stuff with it.

Might even be able to source an auto box for you

Was gonna break it but no interest so either shift it in one lot or probs rebuild it myself next year and ebay it or build something amusing with it

Aviod 4.2....

Parts are VERY pricey, and almost impossible to get....

3.9 easier to work on but make sure blocks are pressure tested....!

I have a 4.2 and the parts where the same price as the 3.9. It's the same block just a longer stroke. My advice is the 4.2 as its the biggest you can go and still have a dizzy without major work.

Lots to choose from here :) V8 Tuner - Rover/Chevy/Ford V8 - Long Engines

I've just done a 4.6 conversion in my 1990 RR classic, keeping the original 3 belt style front cover and dizzy, lightened and balanced etc with mid-valves, a John Eales 2665 cam and a Mark Adams Tornado chip.

It's a manual and is my everyday car and drives superb, I just need to get my LPG back on now it's run in!

I would def recommend the upgrade!!

you can get crank con rods and pistons for the 4.2 other than that it's a 3.9 with a slightly longer duration cam lol
