HI,

My P38, 4.0 ltr 2000yr petrol has had its unfair amount of overheating problems - initially caused by me leaving an airlock in the system after i replaced the heater matrix o rings - since then i have fitted:

Head gasket
new radiator
new water pump new hoses
viscious fan
and a new thermostat

She's been running ok with no problems for a few weeks but i dont normally do long runs - normally i do 5-15 miles - then when i took her on a longer run 20 miles + and involving heavy standstill traffic she overheated again.

Done normal checks and found bottom of rad cold - think i may have put a faulty thermostat on. When i replaced it before i did not check to see if it works so thinking a may have fitted a faulty one Removed it and checked it in a saucepan and it did seem to work - ordered a new one anyway.

Got new one and checked to see if it works and if it opens at same time as old one - it did!!

Looked at both of them and found a difference - see pictures:

can anyone tell me if there should be a "flow restrictor" in it. The one without is the one that i replaced a few week ago. The one with is the new one.

Anybody know ?
