Which fuel pump is best?

Hi - totally new to the forum and this is my first thread.

I've got a Series 3 Lightweight fitted with a 3.5L V8 (from a P6 Rover). Before the current engine it had a 2.3 or 2.8L V6 Ford engine.

The problem - lack of power. It just seems to missing that V8 torque and especially uphill or under load.

There dosnt seem to be anything wrong with the engine, in fact the mechanic that installed the engine for me is a specialist and I trust him.

Could the problem be the fuel pump as its still running the with same pump as it did with the V6.

Im thinking more capacity, more cylinders but same fuel pump = obvious problem?

Any thoughts on what pump I should fit and where on the vehicle I should mount it?

It doesn't sound like your fuel pump really, there's usually loads of excess capacity in them. Besides if you were getting fuel starvation the engine would be spluttering and hesitating as the mixture got weak. Its worth a try though, could you not just use the mechanical lift pump fitted to the V8? Those electric pumps are nothing but trouble and personally I wouldn't entertain one.

Have you made sure the timing is correct, and that the weights in the distributor are not seized? The Rover V8 in the P6 needs the ignition in tip-tip condition (a lot are converted to electronic ignition), so make sure your leads, dizzi cap etc are all good.

If all that lot is OK then its time to start checking the compression on your engine - were you able to drive the car it came out of?
