Hey

I recently bought a 1992 90 2.5TD and has the basic J19 Engine and box, now my question is which Engine Oil would you recommend for this?

I have looked on this forum and around online and most say 15w/40.

Would like to hear what you would recommend for this engine. Was told by a local supplier that 10w/40 is would it should be using.

Thanks
Joe

:5bbeatdeadhorse5: Sorry I know it is a serious question. But ask a 100 people and expect 100 different answers. Either is fine if you are in hot climate or severe operating conditions go with the 15w40 IMO. The engine was designed for dino oil not synthetic.

200tdi would be more likely, unless you've got one of the last 19Js from stock. If it is a 19J, just about any 10W40 or 15W40 will be fine, as long as it's suitable for turbo diesels.

Go for the thinner one - 10w40. If it burns loads rather than laking it everywhere then next time try 15w40

Yes it’s definitely the 19J engine. Was speaking to someone this morning who offered me Shell RT4 at a good price, 20L for £40

Anyway thanks for the comments

you checked the engine code? just 200's (11l) started to replace 19j in 89/90, so 92 must have been sitting for quite some time. :)

Could well have been built, sat around at a dealership from 1990, then finally sold and registered in 1992. My last car was on a 52 plate despite being built in Jan 2002

I only use mineral oil in mine as per manufacturers recommendation, I found that synthetic bleeds out through the seals, I use millers oil.
If its a 19j don't fill it to the max.
