I have a 110 project that I am thinking of selling. It currently has a 2.5VM TD in it and LT88. Over the years I have collected two 300tdi R380 Discovery engines and a TD5. I know that the 300tdi goes in pretty easily as I have done that once. What are people installing in 110s now? Is the 300tdi just too old hat? The TD5 seems OK, but is going to be more challenging. Is it worth it, or is even that just too old to be worth the bother. I know the TD5 is a good condition, late engine without the plastic dowels.

Thanks in advance for any opinions

I would go 300tdi ,with the lack of electrics going wrong to stop you enjoying the day.
Td5 may need constant attention with wiring & conversion
Saving one of the 300tdi for the 110 project has the added advantage that I can sell the Discovery II whole. It currently could drive away, which can't be said of either of the 300tdi donors. Even putting the 300tdi in took me a fair while last time and the electrics for that were trivial in comparison. Hmm.

Td5 . A 300 will be slow and drink doozel. Would go td5 every time despite their woes there good engines.a well mapped ECU will return 35mpg with plenty of oooomph
The TD5 does seem to go well in the Disco II, and the one I have is the later engine with many of the problems fixed. I'm a bit wary of the complexity swapping it to the 110 though. I was planning to work out the minimum loom required to make it go while it was still in the Disco by trial and error and then transplant all of that into the 110. I couldn't find many examples of people who had done it though, which was worrying me. I don't want an epic job. I am not really sure I want a 110 at all - I've gone soft and the Disco 3 I am currently driving is really nice...

Well wack in the 300 and sell it. Sell the disco complete and save the money to keep the d3 going. Having owned various defender over the years I like a td5 with the only downside for me being bottom end grunt. So I just drive it harder.
