Hello all
Please give me your views on this.
I have a 90 TD5 county 02 – lovely car. We need to get a bigger one so have decided to go for a Defender 110 Double Cab. The question is which 1 do we go for. We want a 1 that is relatively new or new. We looked at a TD5 06reg with under 9000miles on it- very nice but the cost is around £21500.
We also test drove the new Ford engined version and it drives really well- better than the TD5 I hate to say! I can get a new 1 for £25000.

Looking at these figures it seems to me that it is a financially better option to get the new one?
I don’t know a lot about the new defender so not too sure as I love the TD5.
Any of your views would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've never driven a TD5, but the have driven the new one and it's brilliant...nicer in side too. Also a full three year warranty is always a good thing to have.

If you have the money and don't mind spending it, go for the new one, if I had the money I would

Have fun

Thanks Pointy Thing

Yes the new defender is really nice to drive and it makes it very easy to use as a every day car as well as overland/off road trips.

No worries

1st gear low box is also 30% lower then the TD5 in case you want to tow a train , you can even tow an artic truck with trailer from "turning the key" in 1st low box, even if the truck puts it's brakes on it won't stall...just digs holes in the floor!:D tis a weapon!!

Enjoy!

P.s. how are you getting it? Cause as you may have guessed fom my knowledge of the new one I'm in the motor trade

Landrover dealer -Harwoods- they have the used 1 and will have to order a new 1 if we went that route.
What company are you involved with?

The double cabs not so spacious though... Theres less useable space in my 110DC to my 90. Ok, less practical space for big items.

They have great character though and if you carry much messy / smelly / dirty stuff they come into their own. a 110 commercial station wagon seems better for space as it has a larger rear load bed, you can carry long items in it and fit a full lengh roof rack.

Thanks
We have 2 working dogs and idea is to have them in the back in a cage so after they come back wet and muddy they go in there!! Our luggage on the back seats. There are just the 2 of us.

I work for Direct Vehicle Leasing, we quite offen use our fleet discounts (far more than any retail customer will ever get, even with a part ex) to buy vehicles for people (i.e. not lease them to them). We've had our Land Rover dealer for 11 years too!! We've a very good relationship with them.

How were you thinking of doing it? as in; finance or just writing out a cheque? If you want to email or PM instead of disusting it on the forum then by all means do and I could get you a price on it if you like?

Yep, go for the new Defender.
I've had grief with the Td5 engine.
The "new" Ford engine is a brilliant unit.
It's what the Defender was waiting for after the demise of the 300Tdi.
