Hi decided that I should treat myself to a Defender, only problem is which series and which engine? Initially won't be off roading etc (well not untill I find a way of making it my wifes idea!). Any suggestions? Don't mind restoring good with metal wok & qualified techy

You should introduce yourself in intro section first.

Budget, area etc?

Use the search facility and have a look about. Are you going to drive every day or off road?

your not giving us a lot to work with, short replies and not a lot of info? you asked for advice, try being abit chattier, people are more likely to help you out if they think you might appreciate it
 
Could get a slightly tatty looking but quite decent 200Tdi for that price.

(Though that does depend on your view on decent)
