Hi all

I have a knackered battery (I think). I have been looked at some beefy one's with 780 CCA, I have a 1991 90, with a Defender 200TDi. I'm looking at the Bosch S5 or S4 battery (780 or 680 CCA's), as an upgrade to the current one, which has 610 CCA's. Euro car parts have 15% off their batteries at the moment. This is the S5 one:- Bosch Skoda S5 Battery 096 5 Year Guarantee | Euro Car Parts UK’s No.1 Car Parts Retailer

My questions, if you would be so kind as to offer your thoughts:-

  • Will this size of battery fit in the tray?
  • Is it a decent battery to buy? (Recently put one in SWMBO's Audi, seems fine)
  • Any other recommendations for batteries apart from the above?
  • The current battery has "flat" terminals, should I be looking for a flat terminal battery, or are only round one's available these days? If so, I assume I can get off to the scrap yard and cut some round adapters off any old car?
Cheers in advance for help

Yeah Bosch are good, so are Numax etc, halfords own are made by Varta so again good batteries (Varta actually make Numax too).

I have a 850CCA Numax in my 90, it's one of the slightly longer ones, you can get just about anything in the defender battery box.

Flat terminals, someone must have fitted them as they are not standard, you can buy battery terminals easily enough for about £2 each, manufacturer fitted ones tend to be crimped on and you won't be able to refit them. I personally would solder and screw the new ones on.
