I dont see it as moving the weak spot, more eliminating a weak spot, what ever or if anything becomes sacraficial after that is up to you.

I'll agree to disagree then. If you make the shafts absolutely unbreakable then the force transmitted will go elsewhere down the driveline, to my mind anyway, and virtually everything is dearer to replace than a shaft, i dont mind stripping stuff and cleaning out a diff if one ever went, but again I don't have a race vehicle or winch challenge truck, just my work landy and mostly everdayer that I greenlane now and again.

That company sell Ashcroft shafts so they are going to want you to buy them, and I don't have a locker anyhow.

Everyone says you should uprate a series g/box when you mate a v8 to it, otherwise they'll blow as your putting twice the power through it, but its just not true, dads run a 2a with one in for ages and only ever snapped one rear shaft, replaced with original series shaft and its fine, it all comes down to the fact that you should drive whatever you've got accordingly, or of you have the cash and money is no object buy all the right gizmos.

I have a limited budget and would rather make do and mend, just my opinion mind :)

Well done. The Ashcroft units have made mine much better on wet grass, wet leaves and hard packed snow.

I like that press on your bench too.

Many thanks Brown, it was reading your thread a while ago that got me tempted in the first place!

Haven't had a chance to test it yet but was very impressed with the build quality and finish!

Yep, its a lovely old press, there is a forge at the other end of the workshop!

Just a thought, but when stuck, I would rather the vehicle pulled me out from the front wheels than pushed me through from the rear.

Everyone puts them in the rear axle first, and it seems to work fine for them.

One of the (many) reasons I didn't want a locker, and went for an atb.
They don't transfer anything like the loading a locker would when used with aggression.

I'm not 'upgrading' my half shafts as that'll move the 'weak' spot to the props or the t/box, half shafts are cheap, boxs aren't, and besides, how I drive, I'm not worried

I doubt if you will have a problem with the shafts, provided you don't boot it ridiculous, and avoid massive tyres. I never have.
