Okay I KNOW this is a real noobs question, but I can't find a definitive answer anywhere.

http://www.landrover.com/gb/ show two alloys wheels for a 90 Defender TDCi...

  • Dual Finish Alloys
  • Boost Alloys
What's the difference, what makes one preferable to the other, and what do the Boost Alloys actually... uhm... "boost"?

Also, if I wanted to fit some 265/75 R16s to either of these alloys, would they fit?

When you've finished laughing, an explanation would be greatly appreciated. :)

The dual finish alloys are the new standard fitting on xs spec pumas. The boost alloy was the standard fit before the dual finish ones. The difference is purely cosmetic, the dual finish has defender written on one of the spokes and the boost doesn't. You can fit 265/75x16 on both rims as they are 16x7. Most tyre fitters recommend that size as the maximum, though I do know of owners fitting 285/75x16 on boosts. Check out this site for the differences in tyre sizes:
