Hi Guys,

Noticed some serious cracking in the sidewall of my tyres on the series, treads are great but sidewall cracking is a big no i thought. It's currently got 205r16 104s on it and i'm aware that that's not factory but works.

Couple of questions if I may.

1) Does anybody know of a decent tyre shop that'll fit them for me around the Chichester area. Ideally anywhere between Goodwood and Emsworth sort of region.

2) What sort of pricing should I be looking at for a set of 4? I have searched specifically these tyres and found some at around £80 a pop, give or take a tenner or so. However one garage quoted me £540 for four of them stating that they're a "very rare size". That doesn't sound right to me at all.

3) I'm aware that I could go for 7.50 r16s and it's tempting, other than a shorter steering lock and increased fuel consumption, what should I know prior to doing that? I'm aware that mine is a SWB and the LWB had a different speedo for the larger tyres. Would it be worth the change? Costs?

4) If i went for the 7.50s and didn't change my speedo, the current speedo would over read right? Safer than under-reading.

Cheers all, any recommendation is greatly appreciated.

6.00 would have been the std fit, the 88 certainly look cute on a set of 6.00 tyres, only real advantages of 7.50 is the extra under diff clearance and a slightly highrr top/cruisng speed.
Always worth keeping an eye on ebay for a set already built up that are local to you.
Might be worth joining the series 2 forum and seeing if there are any for sale.

Do not forget most tyre places will want to fit new tubes, so that is an extra 15 quid per wheel.

I assume if i went over to 7.50s i'd need the larger rims to accomadate? I thought the LWB had wider rims?

Cheers,

Tbh I am not certain, but if you are already running 205 tyres I would guess the rims are wide enough?
The s2 forum is a wealth of info on the tech side.

Mine has had various rims/tyres, the tyres it came with, security 6.00, then same rims with 7.50, now the wider 203 or 204 rims (cant remember!) with the same 7.50 tyres.

Rims are cheap as chips, I think I gave away my last ones to a guy on the s2 forum, as they were weird rare early 109 different offset rims, and he had done some lathe work foc for me in the past.

Okay thank you, maybe it'll be worth buying the whole lot online all done. Tyres on Rims. I thought my rims were original, not sure now.

If you have a good look the part number will be on there somewhere, Iirc some are even dated.
Ebay search for land rover series wheel rim, and get reading loads to learn and promptly forget, or maybe Im getting old!

See the listing for 569203 rims, tad expensive!

Start with what wheels you have. SWB is 5" rim, hardly any tyres fit, just 600 and 205. LWB is 5.5" and 7.50 16 fit. 235s need a 6 or 6.5" rim. Yes people are running 235s on 5.5 rims but its no longer approved by the tyre makers so its a risk. The best choice is 235/85 as there is a huge range and good value but you need to be clear about what wheels you have. cheapest stop gap is a set of wheels with tyres off e-bay, especially if you have 5" rims. Fuel consumption will be better with the 7.50 or 235 than the 205, speedo will be 10-12% off. Not a problem most of the time but you need to be very carefull in 30 limits to be indicated 25 or a Gatso will get you!

Also, i'm open to any tyre size as long as it's sensible if anyone can reccomend
I bought 5 wolf wheels on Ebay for 41 quid and painted them myself. Shod them with 235/85 r16 tyres at 104 quid each and fitted for 10 quid a wheel. So 497 quid all in then sold my old wheels on Ebay for 87 quid after I'd painted them anorl

The tyres will probably perish before I wear them out so it made more sense to me to buy new tyres instead of a used set

I went down the e-bay Wolf, new tyres route and sold the old ones on e-bay. OK mines a LWB so it carries the 235s well, overall I like how they drive and look so very happy with that and going forward I have modern tubless tyres on the correct rims.

looks good!

Anybody got any idea where on the rim i would find the part/serial number? Can't seem to see it yet. I'd like to confirm if i can use 6.00x16 as they look "right" for the landy.

Just want to know what rims so i can make my mind up, 205 r16 are seemingly very expensive. Though if it's got 205s, shouldn't that mean 6.00 would fit?

The quote spooked me, i'd much rather buy 5 new tyres for less and have them look original over 4 new 205s

All dimensions are stamped on the rim but they might be hidden under layers of paint :p
fantastic thankyou! Yep layers of paint, though when i painted them last i don't remember seeing dimensions, probably wasn't paying attention, i'll try find a particularly scabby one and sand that down.

ouch, i was quoted 540 or so for 4.

If they're the right rims i'd much rather go for original spec anyway! Thanks.
