Hi guys, new to the forum and im relatively new to the Landy scene too.
I've purchased a 04 Sport from a mate, only problem is the tyres are ready for replacing as they are 'just' legal.

After doing a full 360 and hitting a bush rather than a wall (phew) in the snow yesterday i quickly realised i need to sort this sooner than i thought, really glad i didnt have the kids in the car, although the missus was quite shaken.

Current tyres are 18/50/235 (standard for the sport i think). Could any of you more experienced guys recommend a replacement tyre that would work well in the snow without having to replace the wheels for smaller ones.

Any advice much appreciated.

Odd question Rodd

Are you asking for a special snow tyre?????
Doubtful
Standard road tyre's are designed to cope with most situations, I'm assuming yr not thinking of rallying or hard core off roading.
May I tactfully suggest you put good new standard tyres on and if driving in snow, drive with more caution, and or invest in a set of snow chains. ;)

Hi thanks for the reply.

No off roading, it's just for general use, i was just wondering if there was any specific brand or model that is particularly better than average in snow and icy conditions, or would any new low budget perform just as well as a premium tyre in snow?

I suppose theres always the chance i'd be wasting my money trying to get a better all round tyre on 18's.

Cheers

Just got off the phone with the local tyre centre, they are recommending Pirelli Scorpion at £125+vat each.

Should these be ok?

Hi Rodd,

I have the exact same issue with 18" wheels. I just ordered a set of Pirelli Scorpion STRs for the freelander @ #140 + vat :(
I have been looking at tyres over the weekend and these get good reviews for winter driving, the tread is pretty rough on them.

Replaced all 4 of mine about 2 years ago, like for like, with Pirelli Scorpion STR's.
The tread pattern is different from the ones I took off and I find them quite noisy on the road.
However, in the heavy snows of this year I have never been stuck and always felt in control.
I wouldn't buy them again though because of the road noise.

I guess thats the compromise, if the tread is thicker its always going to increase road noise. Rather that than be in a ditch i suppose.

Glad to hear they are good in the snow, feel more confident about getting them now.

Thanks!

friend of mine has just fitted falken xe912 on his and seems pleased with them don't know if they are winter/summer/ice/snow/wet/cold/hot or what

Anyone know if a 97 load rating is ok on the TD4?

The stock tyres are Continental 101h but ive noticed the spare is a 97?

Hi mate, which model Falkens do you have?

hi mate, i have the street terrain ziex s/t zo1 and like i said great allround tyre, in all the snow last winter i only managed to get the TC light on once

wierd thing is though that checking on black circles web that they are £112 fitted, now i'm sure that when i looked in summer they were £85 ish

do tyre prices go up once the weather turns an people start thinking of updating ???
