After Seeking advice by the head doctor, I currently have got myself the 300 TDI Disco, and Im currently going thru the rigorous touchier and pain to completely strip this motor back to its bare metal.

Firstly I have started to strip the innards to some great pleasure I have noticed a lot of work for me to do  as any disco owner is fully aware ROT ROT ROT. in the usual areas, Sills boot floor and passenger rear floor aswell, I don't know yet about the front part yet still going thru it.

Then Ive started to strip the front of the truck, wings bumper inner bumper and also the front lights and bumper. I notice when I was taking this apart, most of the bumper and lights where held on by cable ties, which amazed me.

Once all is stripped I would like some kind of inspiration or advice in what should I do with this truck afterwards????

Ive had a good look at Mr Noiseys Thread and i am impressed with what he has done with it, its given me a few ideas but i would like it to be more practical for it to be a family truck

I am wondering if some of the TD5 interior and external parts would fit onto this particular series????

Hullo :)

Thanks for the recommendation Daz! :D

Yeah obviously mine has gone a little bit too far now, but a lot of the same applies for a 7 seater family vehicle.

So, as I say to most folks, good luck with your project.

My advice, strip it back as far as you can, remove rear bumpers, rear quarters, the whole ****. You won't do the job as well as you can if there is extra stuff in the way.

Strip the whole car to bare body, then you'll be able to make a nice job :)

Thanks for the advice mr noisy I think you have done a tremendous job on your motor and has inspired me to work to that standard. how long did it take you to fully complete the desired affect.

I started on the car in january 2010, and it's been a rolling rebuild since then!

Ive used it, repaired, modded and maintained ever since.

I reckon if you're an ultra man you could do the whole body repairs in 2 months, probably longer though, speak to green hornet cos he's done it all in one go unlike me.

Let's get some pics of yours up and see how bad it is! :)

Not difficult, but takes perseverance!

Never done one before, first took an hour, second half an hour.

Bumper off and all interior trims out.

Push glass out.

Work round removing all 10mm bolts, there are quite a few, some hidden inside the C pillar.

Remove tiny nuts inside C pillar to get C pillar trims off.

Work round removing all self tappers, mainly around window aperture. Some will be buried under sealant.

When you thing all fasteners are removed, get a sturdy stainless steel kitchen knife and check to see it is nice and bendy. A polished one will be more happy to bend than Matt finish which is likely to be higher carbon/cheaper/more brittle/more likely to snap and injure you.

Then get a blowtorch/heat gun and work round, heating the knife and the panel, to help cut through the sealant. The panel is stuck on with black adhesive, and sealed around with beige sealer.

The black stuff is easy really, the beige sealer is very tough. Mainly on the outside under the gutter, there is loads of it.

You will get there!

It is the ONLY way to make a proper job of a rear end repair, especially of you want to rub down and rustproof what is already there. If you don't get a good coat of treatment on there it'll be rusting through again and that's a PITA.

Cheers!

Top Advice cheers for that, will hopefully give it a go when I get chance to as work commitments are doing my head in atm, I managed to grab a few bargins today tho as I brought 2 doors and 2 wings off the infamous website with a nice bullbar thrown in for an extra tenner, so not bad for £60 for all. I'll let you know how it goes when I manage to get round to do it. :)

Hi chap,

As you can see it isn't impossible to do everything at once but do make a list of what needs doing and review it weekly so you not only see what's left but more importantly see what you have done.. Trust me doing everything in one go needs enthusiasm.

I only wanted to do my brakes today and the very last corner both front brake pipes broke on me. It's been a long haul and anyone would have though the car was a right off. I now have no toys in my pram lol

There are plenty of people who can help on the forum and Mr Noisy and I will always be around to guide you in the wilder direction lol

After spending nearly 3 hours yesterday in the pitch black i managed to get one door replaced then much to my delight the battery went dead on me  i kinda knew there was a slight problem with it in the first place as when i would start her up she would struggle like mad then come to life.

When i started putting back the front of it i was contemplating in upgrading the lights and front. Im
wondering if the series 3 discovery lights would fit??? There may have to be a little tweek here or there but surely the standard fitment is there??? Anyone got any idea?? Or no someone who has done it
