the begining i suppose,
hello, picked up a 95, 4.0 p38 a week ago, within the first 40 miles had a grumbling noise intermitently from the engine bay, thought it may be a noisy rad fan, since found out it's the suspension compressor, have the airbag light, but every car i've had in the last 5 years or so has, but now have srs light as well, i have front windows not set message, sometimes not all doors lock, intermitent window use, a/c heater fan comes on and off when it wants, and now it has started to cut out when i stop at lights or a junction, oh and the gearbox sometimes locks up and the car will not move without fiddling with the lever.......well i know that's a lot to take in, if you have any advise including combining a petrol can and match please let me know.

cant really help out too much as ive got a oil burner, but the window not set message is an easy one, just open the window fully and keep your finger on the button for a few seconds after its fully open then close it fully and keep your finger on the button for a more seconds and it should come up with window set, do this with all the windows with the message.

Thats just some of the joys of p38 ownership... use the search.. most ****ups are covered in detail... :welcome2:

You need to put it on a diagnostic package like testbook or faultmate, read all the errors, reset everything and then watch for which errors come back up after a while (a lot of systems are adaptive, you can cycle test them with testbook et al. but some faults may only show after a few hours/days of driving). This will give a few ideas of where to look. But at a guess I'd say either you've a fusebox problem or your BECM is dying, assuming of course your battery and alternator are fine.

he's right, the p38 has a reputation for a lot of gremlins. the fusebox is a common one (in the engine bay) a relay near the front goes high resistance. it gets wet from condensation, then bakes itself to buggery. when you change it you need to be aware of the BECM. you need things like the money, 4 digit keycode, and some more money. as you will get 'keycode lockout' when you connect up the battery. -thats a 30minute wait till you can try again. read up on rangerovers.net. if you mess about with a test light or meter you can fry the becm, and a secondhand one will need a geezer to programme it to you car. take your time. i had a window that would not set, even with a geezer on testbook. but lived with it, rather than change BECM again, after frying one changing the radio
