I got home on the back of a lorry last night, the bloke told me it sounds like the turbo has given up.
It started to feel to be runing a bit lumpy.
I checked the oil and topped it up, I only changed it last week.
Then I noticed it was kicking out more smoke than usual, it was night and I could only tell when lit from behind.
Then I could only get 40 out of it on the M65 and I couldn't see our lass in the car behind.
I pulled off @ J2 to go on the M61 and I had a job slowing it down for the roundabout, I managed to get it safe and stall it to kill the engine.
There isn't much oil left but the warning light didn't come on so I'm hoping damage is limited, but I'm an optimistic fool.

So, any recomendations on where to get a Turbo?
I have been warned off a scrappers one so a recon one is probably what I'm after, failing that a new one.
I'm near J25 M62 in Mirfield, there must be somewhere not a million miles away. It's an S reg 300Tdi.

sory to hear of ya trouble m8..

few on ebay, from 2nd hand to recon and new....

plus if ya need and hand to swop or tools etc, just let me know...

Thanks for the offer Nick, I'll bear it in mind.

My son has been asking round too and I have rung Ray's Turbo just down the road from us in Liversedge. It seems that one option is to take my knackered one down and they see whats up and quote for a repair.

Anyroad, me and the lad got it off in 30 mins, TBH he did the hard stuff, I looked for sockets/tools.

I got that wrong, Ray's was the other number my lad got, it's the Turbo Center that has a look and decides on how much. There is an option of upgrading for an extra £150 + VAT too but I think standard is prolly good enough for me.

I don't fancy having a go rebuilding the thing my self, I may as well get a 2nd hand one with no waranty as break it myself :D. I said warant 'coz I can't spell guarunte, garuntee, garante, anyway....

Ta Glb, maybe for another job, I'm sure there will be one!

Is there a special nack to getting the oil drain pipe back on the bottom of the turbo?

I can't get the bleeding gasket to stop in place while I get the bolts in. First time I put it back oil pised out and it was obvious why when I saw the gasket.

Top tip James, it was a doddle when it was stuck down.

Now then, it's back together and I have fired it up, the turbo oil feed/drain doesn't leak anymore.

I was expecting smoke from the exhaust untill all it's pipes have cleared out but there is some coming from behind the fuel lift pump on the off side of the engine, what could that be?

Turbo's fail due to poor oil circulation so a fresh oil and filter change every 5k or 6 months as moisture does mix with oil when cold and been stood.

Let it idle after a thrashing for a few seconds before you switch it off, the key is the oil starvation and well you found out didn't ya.
