Hi,
Im looking for a replacement front prop for my Freelander 1. The Universal Joint that goes into the back of the IRD has collapse and I need a new one. Can anyone recommend a quality replacement? I can find them on ebay for £100 and on Bearmach for £170 but don't know the going rate is for a quality item?

Any recommendations welcome, I don't want to have to change it again in 12 months time.

The propshaft is made by GKN, and I can't imagine anyone else would bother making a pattern part, so I would think whatever you find will be an OE part.

Hi Nodge, Thank you for your reply, Its the front one with the CV joint, according to the Bearmach website it is made in Turkey, I don't know if that good or bad! I know the rear one is a GKN and thats normally a good brand, its just some aftermarket part are of such poor quality. I got some exhaust rubber mount for the freelander that had completely perished in 2 months and let the exhaust drop onto the axle!

thank you Artic2 & Nandad, I will have a look at them, it is just the CV joint at the front of the prop, Do bell do these? I consent see them on their site?

Thank you for that, unfortunately its the CV joint itself that has gone, Im surprised there is no one doing a replacement but maybe it easter just to get a hole new prop.

Thank you

Just a thought. If you're wearing out the front CV, then this suggests the lower tie bar bush has gone soft, which is allowing the engine to rock about and damage that joint prematurely. The prop CV joint should be good for the life of the vehicle, if it's all working correctly.
