is there a map or an online guide to where green lanes are? im in west yorkshire and will be wanting to start going green laning from next weekend.

I'd suggest you join Yorkshire mudrunners (google it) or any other local club. I think Mud-club have a Yorkshire contingent that go out quite a lot. Or you could join the 4x4Response group (see link in my siggy) They have a laning trip arranged for next weekend and I'm sure they'd be happy to have you tag along. Tell em I pointed you in their direction.

It isn't cloak and dagger at all Just buy an OS map and have a look in the legend to see what a boat looks like then look on the map. Then

A/ Hope the Boat hasn't had a TRO put on it
B/ Hope it isn't so rutted/washed out that you damage or lose your vehicle (I know someone who got his disco stuck for 7 days and the group burnt 4 winches out in 3 hrs)
C/ There are plenty of Orpa's that are good to drive been little more than tracks themselves whilst others are Tarmac'd. Only local knowledge will tell you which is which.
D/ we're sick and tired of ****ers in over modded 4x4's running massive mud tyres and ripping the lanes to pieces or going out to look for difficult lanes so they can get stuck to the wheel arches and make the lanes so impassable that the Council close it for 2 years. or even permanently. If they want to pay and play they should fook orf to KORC or Tong and pay for their fun.

Did they not have a snatch block between em?

yeh i can read maps, are they stated as green lanes on the map?
"Green Lane” is a generic term and has no legal status, so doesn't appear on a map.
If you have no experience I would not recommend just looking on a map and following a lane marked on it. The OS map will only tell you its legal status (at the time the map is produced) not it's physical condition. Following an unknown lane purely from the information on a map is a recipe for getting stuck.

If they did they didn't know how to use the fooker. I lent em my Tirfor for the 3rd attempt to recover the Disco and they completely shagged the cable. It had only ever been used for tree surgery. and didn't have a spall on it. when it came back it was thick with mud and ****e & I cut my hands to fook when I tried to unroll it . there's a broken strand every 5 or 6 ft. Fook knows what they did with it.
