Just been trying to fit a fuel tank guard to my TD5. Thought it would be nice and simple like a steering guard, but no. Sheered off 2 bolts and the two that came out are near enough rotten.

I always seem to find myself needing nuts and bolts just never know where to get them, then I never know what bloody size they are!

Anyone got any tips tricks, locations anything really.

Thanks.

Have you checked your local phone directory or googled for bolt suppliers in your area as they appear to be more common than you would think? Fleabay is also an option but just bear in mind that not all bolts are equal, stainless while looking good are relatively soft and shouldn't be used for high stress jobs like brakes / props etc. Also there are various grades of stainless with marine grade being the best for anti-corrosion properties. I normally order what I want plus about 50% to keep as spares / stock.

You local industrial estate will have a few. I use a company in Belfast called Kennedy and Morrison.

screwfix/toolstation or Aldi or my local hardware shop. depends where I am, vs what offers are on, vs how organised I am.

screwfux etc ok for non safety related items but wouldnt bolt a roll cage etc on with their ****e, find a local fixings company and go to them , also good as most will sell you only what you need and not in multiples of 10s 50s or even 100s, we have a brilliant company in Yeovil called Wentin Fastners ,really helpful and will help "size" bolts etc and have an online shop so will mail order, (im not related to this business) just a satisfied customer , when you have a v8 in an older 90 you do need most thread types at on time or another

Bearing Man aka BML Hayley, Shrewsbury and Newtown and Oswestry.
but as the man said; check the local phone book under engineering supplies. most of the good ones are really helpful

I tried Screwfix for some bolts to fasten on my Sankey hitch, told them I needed 10.9's (Thats what I was told I needed), and they just looked at me as if I had just fallen out of the sky:confused::confused::confused: After much mucking about with 10.9mm???...... erm NO!!!!!, M10.9???..... erm NO!!!!! They admitted they didn't have a clue what I was talking about and I left:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:. Found a small fastenings place down a back street, who knew exactly what I wanted and was very helpful, but only had 12.9's in, but said I could have them for the same price as the 10.9's:D:D:D

you forgot to tell them the grade/strength(10.9) you needed. So you gave them incomplete information
