Okay, after much debate with the Mrs, finally I get my way and get myself a Hippo. I have already done +11K miles in it and love driving it, happy days! However, not without its little problems and niggles. The trouble is she always voiced concerns about the reliability of a Landy, but I bought it regardless and so every little issue causes great stress. Some of which I have sorted and others which continue to annoy and/or concern me:-

1. Clutch pedal - got rid of a very annoying squeek a few months ago thanks to bit of grease, however on way down to sussex at the weekend it started a very cloud clicking noise. Which appears to be due to excess play in the pedal mechanism meaning it doesnt always fit straight into the push rod and so catches. Appears to have settled for now, albeit with a bit of a slight click/squeek but have a feeling it will return.......

2. Air-con - was not getting much cool air so had a refill and for two weeks, sweet cool fresh air. But then suddenly, back to warm air again. So seem to have a leak somewhere in the system but no idea where.........

3. Brakes - had new pads and disks fitted in January, after sudden awful grinding noise. Due to location and lack of options had to take it to Kwik Fit (yes, I know!). Since then as well as terrific brake squeeling have also had problem where I believe the far side front calliper is sticking. So get a very irritating intermittent high pitched noise from wheel. Three trips to Kwik Fit under their warranty is yet to resolve it............

4. Coolant - it needs topping up every 1000 miles or so. Can see pink crusty residue to side of radiator so assume its losing it there. As cant see any leaks around pipes/connections and although some fine cracks in the extension tank lid, none appear to go right through. So really worried this will be the big repair bill looming.........

Any advice with only a very basic knowledge of mechanics might be abld to tackle and also which I should prioritise (and which are likely to really cost me?) 😡

Sounds like the coolant is the one to sort out first. Change the header tank. I had to on my '06. It looked okay, just crazed, but it's done now and no coolant loss.

The brakes work, just squeal. I changed my EBC pads for oem ones last week and my squeal has gone. But if you have a sticking calliper the guide pins bed replacing. Should have been done at same time as changing discs. I believe LR recommend that. You may need to overhaul the brake calliper with new seals etc.

Clutch. Can't comment on - I drive autos.

Air-con. Doesn't stop the car from working, but useful in damp weather and when it is hot. Could be many things from a leaking pipe to the pump, so could be expensive to fix. For £50 or so many garages will check the sir-co and leak test it and should be able to advise you where the leak is coming from.

Got to say the kwit sh*t air con service is great (don't recommend them for owt else) £50 for regas and leak test.
Strip the brakes down and copper slip the lot. If that doesn't work do what Epicuser suggests.
I also drive autos so can't comment on clutch.
New radiator time.

is it a PG1 gearbox? check the slave cylinder bracket, it cracks and allows excessive play on the clutch pedal, after some time it breaks and destroys the master/slave system.

Hi thanks for the advice, dont think its a PG1 gearbox (2L diesel Td4) but will check

Thanks for the advice, will try changing the tank first , then go from there. Shall also check whether the calliper guide pins were replaced. Once those issues sorted will think about the aircon. :)

Cheers, much appreciated

I had a similar problem with the clutch pedal, there wasn't any excess free play but on depressing there was a clicking sound which I traced to where the pedal linkage joins the cable being held by some plastic clip, the clip was partly broken and moving about, I got over it by using two cable ties to hold the joint much closer without restricting movement.

Thanks, will take a look at that.

1. Clutch pedal - bracket cracked probably or slave no longer fastened to it firmly. (mines tie-wrapped on ;))

2. Air-con - o-rings, a simple but fiddly task to perform/replace.

3. Brakes - calliper slides need replacing probably.

4. Coolant - Radiator fubared don't mess about with it get it replaced.
