Hi guys,

As the title says I'm after a straight through exhaust pipe to fit my C Reg Defender and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction (discovery 200tdi engine).
I'm not sure what exhaust layout I have and wasn't prepared to take a gamble. It appears that I have three silencers one front, one middle and one back...

I'm also looking to make it a side exit, so if there's a possibility of combining the two that would be excellent.

Thank you!

With a Disco 200TDi into a 1986 Ninety / OneTen (not Defender) it is almost certainly a bespoke system and an off the shelf replacement probably does not exist (especially as you specify straight through / side exit).
Personally I would go to a company who specialises in making one-off systems and discus your requirements with them, I did this on an old LR of mine (S111 SWB V8) and it was very straight forward (and surprisingly cost effective). You can also specify the material (SS would be the smart choice).
A quick search should soon come up with places in your local or wider area.

Apologies, yes it is indeed a Ninety.

Yes that's what I was concerned about, I was hoping that there was a possibility that only the middle and rear sections were bespoke, just wondered if anyone might be able to identify this.

Many thanks for your response, I will certainly have a look.

Ellis.

It's a Defender, they should look rough and ready. On another note, it's already black so it shouldn't be a problem lol.

Thanks for the reply.

You can get a straight through side exit on eBay for a 200tdi 90
The problem I have is knowing which one to get, because it might be a bespoke system, just need someone to verify that if it's possible.

Thanks for the reply

Looks like the system on my 200 90 before I hacked it about.

Maybe Im blind but are you sure thats not stainless already? the flanges will be mild stell but them silencers certainly look like they are hiding a shine.

Me mate had the 200 90 with side exit, I did say it will get black and oh boy did it get black:D

Ps I wish my chassis was as tidy as that.

I think they are stainless, just covered in oil more than likely ;) at least the silencers are, they've still remained shiny.

I might compromise then and have it poking at the chassis, keep it well protected lol.

I've just had a go at the chassis, jet wash and a bit of wire brushing here and there then Buzzwelds Chassis in One, top stuff... Highly recommended.

Iirc my system is/was a Janspeed unit and Im sure cost one of the previous owners quite a bit of money, Ive had the car 9 years and it looks exactly like yours, so whilst its not sexy they certainly last well.

Ive only read good things about that Buzzweld gear.

i think you have a soot box (DPF) and two sliencers, correct me if I'm wrong.
I used the back box off a 1990's Discovery which is just a muffler (straight through) and shoved a slightly smaller diameter pipe half way through so as to eliminate half the muffler effect. Most modern boxes are straight through mufflers.

Yes wrong:D

Mines identical and I cut the front box off of mine as I fitted a drop pto, and it was just a std silencer which I then used on the series as being stainless was to good to bin.
Why theres three silencers I have no idea?

Also being stainless which is hard I found it used to crack/split the actual pipe just by the gearbox so I cut that out and welded in a stainless flex section, been fine ever since.

If you're handy with a welder (or know someone who is) you could just create a straight through yourself. All you need is a length of stainless tube and then either make up a couple of preferable stainless flanges or expanded swaged section welded together.

Because my B reg 90 has become a bit of a mongrel I finally throw away all the cobbled together pieces of exhaust and built a complete new system from the manifolds back. Now I know it's the size I want throughout and with the mufflers I want. Was tempted to put a couple of diverter flaps in to have side exits as well, but didn't as don't want too many noise complaints!

Thanks for the response everyone, very grateful. I think I'll go down the road of altering it myself, might be a bit of a pain but at least I know what I'm getting.

Thanks again!
