Like a plonker I ripped the plastic drain on my sedimeter clean off, luckily no leaks as the rest of the drain plug is corroded in tight, I should have known better after reading all the advice about them from this forum

Where's the best place to order spares, can I buy a replacement drain plug, or will it have to be a complete unit

Pete

I'd either follow hughesys good advice, or take the thing off to clean it out and Araldite the bottom screw in properly. You can guarantee that if you don't it'll vibrate loose, or otherwise leak, right when you really don't want it to .. ;)

You can also remove the plastic screw and fit a ss bolt with a bit of ptfe tape and still use it for draining water.

hi there clean diesel is next to godliness and also essential for your engine.

even series land rovers had a glass bowl sediment filter fitted.

though diesel is now better than ever from the forecourt pump i wouldnt do away with this filter.

we run our 300tdi on biodiesel which can play havoc with filters as it cleans the whole system spotless, as such i nearly had the same problem as you but didnt push the plastic drainer to the limit and break it.

ive looked into alternative units myself, starting in the usual place ebay.

i considered these viable alternatives, take a look.

CAV Diesel Fuel Filter / Glass Water Trap marine boat on eBay (end time 11-Jun-10 18:23:53 BST)

BIO DIESEL BIODIESEL INLINE WATER TRAP SEDIMENT FILTER on eBay (end time 13-Jun-10 13:52:03 BST)

INBOARD FILTER, WATER, FUEL, SEPERATOR, DIESEL on eBay (end time 17-Jun-10 13:08:53 BST)

obviously checking for pipe fitments and siting the units is to be taken into consideration but any thing is possible.

i havent checked with my local landy centre to see if britpart do a pattern part replacement for the original as yet but the above could be an upgrade for this any way.

Trouble with fitting a new drain plug is it doesn't get rid of the 'jelly' that forms, it only drains water .. hence why I Araldited mine and now take it off from the top.
