When does the novelty wear off?

Had my 200 tdi 110 Defender for 23 years (bought brand new) and still brings a smile to my face. 205,000 miles and counting. Here's the venerable old beast on the foreshore a couple of months ago.

when i can get mine out of the garage again after being stuck in there for weeks ( scaffolding round the house ) the novelty should start all over again, i am off for two weeks right now and can't use it

It tempiorarily wears off when your walking 15 minutes on a country road to get water cause your headgasket is blown but the thing takes over your life so badly youd never think of getting rid

It wears off when a Toyota Landcruiser 80 series with 3 manual diffs locks tugs you out of the c..p.

For my misses it wore off the first time we broke down in one of the hardest downpours i had seen in years, it wore off for my mum rescueing the misses in said downpour.
Me on the other hand, still over the moon with it after 9 months, 2 breakdowns, nearly getting buggered by a deer in the woods on the second one, and countless new parts... But then again my money wasnt doing anything sat in that bank account any how!

Had one almost continuously since around 1969.

I even commuted to just outside Glasgow from Halifax for 3 years and she never missed a beat ... and that was in my Series I :D

Currently I have a 1999 110 2.5 NAD and she has never let me down, and only went to a stealer once as I didn't have time to change the clutch, and that cost me over £800! Never again!

There aren't many bits on her that I don't know and love, and if all goes well she will be getting a new chassis later on this year! :D :D

Been a 90 owner for about 8 weeks, 2 of those, have been anxiously awaiting her return from recon engine fitting. Went to Dingocroft's 30th birthday bash yesterday, so many Landies all in one place, it was beautiful! Trust me, your love will never die! I need to stop waving like a loon at Landies when I'm in my Astra!

I've had my 110 200 tdi CSW for just over a vear now. In that time I have done the following.

1. Fitted secondhand winch bumper and won 9.5xp winch £400.00

2. New terrafirma steering guard about £100.00

3. 5 new BF Goodrich AT2 tyres £615.00

4. New front disks and pads, rear calipers, drums and drum brakes. About £100.00

5. Snorkel. About 110.00

6. Steel Snow cowl - £130.00

7. New front prop, alternator and fitted by a local land shop £415.00

8. Raptor engineering dash console £85.00

9. Midland CB £45.00

10. Jacking rock sliders £130.00

So that's about £2100.00 spent on a landie that cost me £3800.00

I have purchased a second hand bulk head for £150.00 and it's cost me £200.00 to veg it shot-blasted, metallised and resprayed in black. I'll pick that up next weekend.

Today I can hear/feel a bearing going. I think it's the front transfer bearing. Just ordered the parts and some other stuff so that's another £50 quid.

Then of course there at all the other bits you buy.

Tools £500

Recovery straps, strops, shackles £100.00

Dog guard £90.00

Rust treatments £20.00

Hammarite £40.00

Nuts and bolts assorted £20.00

And the miryad off stuff I've forgotten could easily put me into the £2500.00 bracket.

I still love the beast though. I smile like a loony driving it. My wife doesn't appreciate it as much. Perhaps because she's petite (short) and I've removed the CSW foot steps. And it's noisey like a b'strd due to having no carpets up front.

Oh and my other money out is my horse. I'm cursed I tell you, I'm bloody well cursed

Tom
