hi lads i know its a bit of a long shot but i will give it a go,im running the standard set of 16" alloys and im going to be needing a new set of tyres soon,so im thinking of up grading to 18",19" or 20" second set but with a good set of part worn tyres, there are stacks on ebay but as you know i will have to sell a kidney to pay for the transport,so does anybody now of any in the portugal area, cheers lance

mine passed with 20's. and told the insurance that i would be swapping them them about. all they said was to tell them when i would be using them and they would change the policy accordingly. but no refund from the mod of the 20's that were fitted :):):)

I went the opposite way.. changed from 18's to 16s, and the whole setup just rides alot smoother and more controled. Tramlining on the 18s was horrible, didn't fully go away until I put the 16s on. Tramlining on anything bigger would be horrendous... the suspension is set up for alot of sidewall flex...

Part-worn tyres = VERY bad idea on big wheels... Tramlining only gets worse as the tread wears down. If you're gonna do it (and I wouldn't recommend it) AVOID part-worns and cheap new tyres at all costs...

Same as Clarky130.
Went from 18" to 16", got rid of tramlining and steering shake, better ride, and much better off road as I fitted A/T tyres.

i'm doing the same, going to my 16's that i just bought with GG on them. i know for a fact, the 20's will be no good in winter.

plus the previous owner stuck 275/45/20 tyres on them. makes the speedo a wee bit out. to me, it should of been noted when the MOT was done, but i didnt own the car then so cant comment.

I wouldn't go over 18inch, I have these on my car and swop to 16inch winter tyres about now. I always find the 16s ride a little bit better on our rough island roads (not so good as the 18s on summer motorways). Have yet to work out the speedo change, anyone got the maths?

If you have the correct tyres on both size wheels, the rolling radius is near enough the same so the speedo is not affected:)
