from what i know freelander 1 and freelander 2 wheels dont go on each other i have 98 freelander with 16 with it came with
thanks for the reply but mines is a freelander 1.i just heard that wheels from certain years wont fit unless you fit spacers to the rear wheels only.dont want to waste my money if they wont fit many thanks

its to do with the breaks thay are much bigger on the later modles and older freelander wheels will not fit
Yet the brakes are still crap LOL. I dread to think how bad they must be on a pre-2000 model!

Maybe yours just aren't working correctly, the ones on my wife's 2006 TD4 stop it on a sixpence?

I had a 1999 and now a 2003 - the brakes were and are fine - I adjust them myself though and keep them maintained.
Yes I understand older wheels do not fit later models - the drum brake is larger on older models.

I disagreed with this one the other day (see my earlier post) but as I was driving my wife's TD4 today I decided to do a couple of emergency stops just to make sure my memory wasn't playing tricks on me and it wasn't............ The brakes are extremely effective and if yours don't stop you quickly and in a straight line then there is something wrong with them but the original set-up is fine.

You'll need 6mm thick spacers. Your PCD is 114mm & your centre bore is 64.1mm.
I found myself with the same problem when cash was extremely tight one month & cut out the centre from an old brake disc (perfect pcd, thickness & centre bore)
You can get universal spacers but I'm not too keen on them & there is a guy on ebay who does 114.3mm pcd (5 stud) 6mm thick spacers but doesn't say how big the centre bore is. 5X114.3 6MM WHEEL SPACERS SET OF 4 | eBay UK His feedback is of a little concern though.
My 2003 car happily runs the older rim with the 6mm brake disc spacer I made & the wheel spokes clear the edge of the drum by about 1mm. They will also clear the front brake caliper by a couple of mm (you will also need them on the front) & still just allow the wheel to locate/centralise on the front hub spigot. There is also still plenty of thread on the studs for the wheel nuts to tighten up properly.

thanks for the info the seller i was looking at said you only need them on the rear [10mm] just goes to show all the missleading info out there.
anyway im now looking at 15 inch steel wheels for the winter,does any year fit my 2004 td4 sport

Not tried steels myself but all info seems to suggest that they fit all years of the Freelander 1.

I had 15in steels wheels on mine and the guy I bought it off dropped a set of 15in alloys on them. Imagine my surprise when when carrying out routine checks on the FL I found the back wheel nuts loose. He had put a later model set of alloys on my 2001! The spoke weren't clearing the drums on the back! I've got 5mm spacers all round now and fingers crossed everything is running well! Lucky I check the wheels every week as part of my weekly checks on oil and water etc.....
