Hi lanmjdun

Tks for your reply, so yeah confirmed my suspicions, the dealer has said get back to them with the final cost and they will 'come to some arrangement'
Looks like I will need new bolts to fit the original spare, new wheebrace for the Disco III bolts as well as the spacers,,,,

The sets go for £60+ on eBay, so should be something the dealer would go for. Come to some arrangement? Yeah, he pays the whole amount!

So you have the original P38 spare wheel? That's a bit messy, what sizes are the four wheels/tyres on the car versus the spare? Disco III tyres usually have different rolling diameters.

I do not think spacers are the answer. The Rover alloy wheels are centered with the sleved lug nuts. You should not need wheel spacers. I have ahd balancing problems with mine before as well. The problem was simple. I had some cheaper cooper tires and the tire shop was crap at balancing tires.

Some rims do not take the crimp on weights very well and they can fly off. Also sometimes sticky weights are left hidden in the rim from previous balancing attempts. My rims are the mondials, I think these are perhaps the most difficult to balance. The books say to only use sticky weights with the mondials because the lip on the rim is so small.

Find a good tire shop who will listen to you. Tell them you have tried several times to get the wheels in balance without sucess. Ask them to take their time and put someone knowledgable on the job. Get them to find the heaviest part of the tire and ask them to move the tire on the rim to balance the heaviest part of the rim. Then they can start putting weights on.

I had loads of problems with my 18 inch hurricanes.
went to several tyre experts without success .
I found out that they needed to be balanced on a machine using "haweka" plate adaptor ( i think that was the name ).
I found a tyre place that had one and he showed me the 4 wheels balanced normally to perfect zero.
then he put them back on using the adaptor and they were all out!!!!!!
he re balanced them on the plate and they were perfect when i cruised down the motorway.
stick on weights only.

worth the effort

The tyre shop has now ordered the spigots so I think i need to go with that fix first and see what happens, will mention the haweka adaptor, the main train here seems to be that they are hub load bearing wheels not lug bearing but i am still looking for a definative answer on that one

As to the spare, thats can of worms and I agree at best 'its messy' but gonna cross one bridge at a time, will update on monday as to whether the spigots make any differnce

Woo Hooo, ...to quote a phrase I read on here recently

The spigots seem to have done the trick !!!!

All i need now is a new set of wheel bolts for the spare which is an origninal, and a wheelbrace for the ex-Disco lll wheels, or anuva ex-Disco lll wheel for me spare
