wheel on bonnet

Mine is on the bonnet, I am 6'1'' and I find it fine. It only obscures the front left hand edge of the bonnet as your sat in the drivers seat.

Take it off if you are doing anything more than an oil check though. Mine tried to kill me!!!

I had wheel mounted on bonnet was a right nuisance it destroyed the bonnet and if a kid was standing in front you would not see it, I got rid and put it in the back

Martyn was size was your wheel that it would stop you seeing kids in front

I'll take a pic of my view when I go out and you can see what I see. I love having it on the bonnet and wouldn't have it anywhere else now

mines up front anorl, much better there imo, can still see the nearside corner, looks/feels wrong when its not on.

Only way it destroys the bonnet is if you drop it down, put it down and its fine. the mount kits also have a stiffener plate to go on the underside of the bonnet.
I found it a blessing in some ways, means the wind cant lift the bonnet to slam it on yer head if youve got one of the scissor stays.

this parts defender i bought has a bonnet wheel mount

My bonnet came pretty bent due to the PO dropping it closed with a tyre on it. I'm replacing the bonnet and will mount the tyre else ware.

PO? It can be quite heavy but as long as you fit the correct prop and use the stiffeners and backing plate it shouldn't cause any damage to the bonnet.

Lower the bonnet don't let it fall ...I have a 7.50 on mine and its not a problem

yeah me to, i notice it bobs about a bit, and at first i thought it was the bonnet flexing but it isnt, its just general movement. I have no problem with it at all

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought back in the days of military series motors, some even had 900x16's on the bonnet!

Iv got my 235/85/16 on the bonnet of my 110. It does block part of the front and side view but you soon get used to that.

Because its heavy I fitted a second bonnet strut/stay. I'm 5ft 11 so being able to see was ok for me, but my wife who drives now and again is a lot shorter.

So only because the wife wants to drive I fitted some alloy box section under the seats now raising them by about an inch, making seeing over the top good for the wife and really easy for me.

Seat raisers can be purchased from exmore trim etc, but are costly, so I made mine for just under £10 to do both the front seats.

Iv got some pics of my seat raisers if any one wants to see them.

You dont need the rubber buffers on as the tyre itself is rubber ! and so sits ok . The bonnets after 110/90 (ie defender) are not as robust . The option was not there on td5 due clearance to engine issues. Use the bracing kit and should be OK as long as not using on bush tracks, corrugations, etc . When the later bonnets have a tendency to split . Yes more aerodynamic as previous post . I found that going above 265/75 starts to be intrusive . (5'11") . so only run with 285/75 on back door in UK . Scissor prop type changed to solid type land rover advise HTSH

yes deffo change from a scissor prop to a solid bar.

as for the buffers, i have run both with and without, i prefer with as you can tighten the wheel down onto them and it is less wobbly off road as it were

It may be down to tyre size you were running or type of bonnet mount that you had

the 1 ton series (with wider/bigger tyres) used a version of the station wagon rear door mount on the bonnet BTW
