Hello all, ive done a few searches, and know quite a bit about offset already, but i just seek a simple answer.

Can i run 285's which sit inside my original flexi arches without poking out and breaking the law? If so how much steering lock would i have, and what would i need to do, to be able to flex.. A fair bit without pulling them off, what offset rim would i buy to sit level, or just inside the arches? +8 offset, or 0offset

I currently have a 2 inch lift, which is lovely, got enought flex imo, and having some lockers built into some disco axle casings,

I dont mind raising it a little more, just dont want them extended arches!

Thanks in advance, been bugging me for weeks!

well it all depends on what rims you fit, if you get offset rims like my steel challengers then you have good lock and doesn't rub radius arms or anything (285 fedimas & 4" lift) if you buy normal steel mods then you'll most likely want spacers to avoid rubbing. doesn't matter sticking out the arch just don't get a funny copper pull you.
Been running tyres out the arches for years and really couldn't care ;)

35"/12.50/15's

285/75/16's - sit at 34"

And that's them sitting out the arch slightly.

And depends as to how much flex you have to wether you need to trip the arches or not,
I've done a fair amount on mine to stop it and now have to extended the inner rear tub as the wheel just sits on the top of the tub now even with a 4" lift. The pics are from when I was running 15" shocks and I'm now running 18" air shocks.

New 18" air shocks

People like you are what is wrong in the 4x4 world and give us all a bad name.

How did you work that one out please? You know nothing about me.

This must also mean then everyone who does winch challenges, or ultra 4 trucks that cost near £100k to build like jim marsdens beautey at gigglepin that's road legal or any form of off-roading that has tyres slightly past the arch Are giving them selves a bad a name? That makes a lot of sense bud!!
Ps, you will find quite a lot of LZ members who know me on here can say how such a wonderful chap I am hahahaaa ;)
Thank you.

Hopefully the photo above is working, thats is how my truck is atm. Which is a 2inch lift on the 33 feds

They are the -32 offset mods, which i bought accidentally! Brand new never used!

Maxy man your truck is absolutely incredible! Taking flex to another level!

I meant flexing enough to potter about at the pay and play sites, thats all.

Im tempted to buy some +8mm or 0 offset rims , but not sure if i will have much, if at all any turning circle,

Your a braver man than me, driving with the wheels out the arches, i would love to, but i am self employed and my business relies on me being able to drive, and 1 snotty copper could cause me a big hassle!

It looks sooooo much nicer with some 'poke' outside the arch :)

Well the challengers are -25 offset if that makes any sense to you I don't know how the offset figures work? And mine only just stick out a tiny bit more than what your running currently. From the front it doesn't look bad at all, but at the back where I have challenge corners the same as you it does look wide but in a nice way haha ;)

All the coppers locally are relaxed generally, they see its and off-roader and don't get snotty really, been pulled over a few times so far this year just as routine check as I'm always about at night quite late and they like the truck and don't seem botherd by it. Everything is declared on insurance including wider wheels & tyres, body modification, suspension and axle change the lot and passes MOT each year so I'm not to fussed!

Your tyres as fitted are illegal, the tread of the tyre must not be visible from directly above.
motor vehicle regulation 1996 section 18 paragraph 2 subsection D
The front face of a wheel may proturde 30 mm but the tyre tread must be covered.
it buriedv in here The Motor Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 1996

I don't really care, it's insured, passes mot and the coppers don't mind.
More things in life than to be worrying about silly **** like that,
Good day :)

You better go start complaining to all the professional teams then that have tyres sticking out on their road legal trucks ;)

I saw a bicycle today with no mudguard whatsoever and absolutely nothing untoward happened whatsoever.........it was a bit of an anticlimax really:p

  don't post it on here you might get a life lesson about how their a bad person of the cycling world and give them a bad name! Not to mention get the law book out on them! :rulez:

If you were to follow every rule by the book, then we wont even touch a bolt on a stock working car.

Not saying to go out there and break the law, but you must use your discretion, and yes, some coppers who are anti modded car could nail you for every change you make.

I have a turbocharged BMW e30 in Canada. The license plates there are square, around 6"X8". It was blocking the air flow from the stock intake vent. I folded about 2" in on the bottom where it has a little slogan about my Province.

The Province and plate number was visible, cop in the coffee shop came out, admired my car and then said...I don't think you like that slogan Eh. He knew fully well it was folded to allow air and then laughed and said it was a good idea.

I asked him if it can get me a ticked, he said some copper on a rusty day can but they will throw it out if it went to court with me explaining it was to help with engine cooling.

Gave me his cell number if I ever got fined for it.
