Hi all,

I'm getting a rumble from my P38a diesel auto at around 30mph and 60mph which sounds like a wheel bearing has gone or is on it's way.

It gets worse when I go round a right hand corner so i've deduced it's a left hand side bearing as they will be loaded up on a right hand corner.

It also gets slightly worse when braking so I thought probably front as it gets loaded up under braking.

So I reckon front left bearing. Please can anyone comment as to whether that sounds like a decent enough way to find the culprit ?

My issue is that I jacked up the front axle and checked for play in both front wheels - nothing really. I also rotated them both to see if I could feel anything out of the ordinary - both felt ok. I did the same with the back wheels as well and all seemed the same.

So i'm a little wary now as to which wheel bearing is on it's way. The noise suggests front left, but it all feels ok. Any ideas please ?

Thanks

could be, but also check out the wear on yr tyres.....have been caught out by un-even tyre wear more than once.....

Thanks for reply. There is a bit of tyre wear on the edges but same both sides. Not too sure how best to test that. I guess if I either pump the tyres up more or deflate them a bit then the noise should change if that's the problem?

Simple way is swop front to rear, then see if the noise is still there.....if yes....next step.....replace bearings....

Thanks all for the info. Will try swapping the wheels round first to see if that's the issue. Will also check the VCU whilst i'm at it. I've checked discs and pads and all look ok at the moment.

Thanks Irishrover, will pm you now...

Rick.
