Just a quick question as i am pretty sure i know the answer.
Would a defective oil seal for a rear wheel bearing on my 200tdi cause the inner face of the brake disc to be covered with oil/grease.

yes but not the inner seal ,either the one in stub axle or if earlier the one just behind wheel bearing nuts ,may well be the sign of a loose bearing or blocked breather too

yes ,if wiped clean with solvent first, the inner seal isnt an oil seal so you need to see why oil is reaching wheel bearings

So (forgive me for asking what is prob a stupid question but I ain't delt with hubs / bearings before) in a normal situation what does prevent diff oil getting along the stub axle and into the bearing area ?
