hello / can anybody clear this up finally ,a friend of mine who is a mechanic still seems to think you can just change the bearings on a2001 discovery 2 td5 and not the complete hub. he says they can be fitted by using a press machine ,being a thick plasterer i aint got a clue, any help thanks arv

I don't have a TD5 but I've heard many people just put 'normal' adjustable wheel bearings in .. you have to remove or change a spacer I believe .. :)

Same here dont have a td5 but when my bearing failed on my 300tdi it was at motorway speed.... it welded itself to the stub axle and was much easier to replace the whole stub axle, but i should imagine if you are just changing a noisy bearing then its just a simple press jobby, dont quote me though

Hi
If you can find the correct bearing then yes you could just push it out and push the new one in. But it is not a standard bearing that is fitted to the Td5 Discovery because the ABS ring is incorparated into the bearing. And I think you can't get the correct bearing on it's own.

If you were to modify it to take another type of bearing you would lose your ABS/Traction control and the ABS light would stay on.

Hope this helps.

you neec to replace the hub picks show my hub when i striped it down the berings i have never seen before and the outer race is all on part
