Hi all.. Quick question: I'm currently running Insa Turbo Saraha's 235/70/16's on my 300Tdi. Used for a mix of road and off road use. Should I get these balanced?

The reason for asking: I've got the dredded "wheel wobble" at 60-70mph and after searching on here (yes, I did a search! :D) balancing seems to have cured it on one occasion, but there was no mention of tyre type. If they need balancing i'm going to get the bearings and track rod ends checked at the same time... Then carry one down the looooong list of things it could be if that don't cure it..... Cheers all

Most wheel balancers will struggle to do large tyres like yours, the best option are balancing beads, you put them in the tyre and go for a drive, they will help balance it all out. There may be other issues though, I am running 31" Sahara's and I have no wobble/vibrations at all, even up to 80mph...

Lies!

My 245/75/16's are balanced and the guy who did them works out of a tiny shop. My 245/70/16's were also balanced so he should have no problem getting them done.

Judging by the  I'm guessing they should be done - fine. Thats my first thing to do... Thanks...

As this has only just started i'm guessing something is wearing away. I've seen stuff about the balancing beads - good and bad - so may think about them, but will try the rest of the list first if the balancing don't cure it...

Tyres IMO if capable should always be balanced……….its free anyway when buying the tyres new and getting them fitted so might as well. If not probably cost you £5 or so at the local independent fitter

Don't bother with the beads

Hmmmmm don't want to ignite the lead v beads argument! Got lead the moment so will stick with that for now.

How good is your steering damper? I had the wobble at those speeds, had my tyres re-balanced twice, then checked everything for excesive play and found my damper was on its way out.
