Sorry folks, but with the search facility still down I going to have to repeat a previous post from last year.

Pressing the carpet firmly with my fingers around the seat-belt mounting on the rear wheel arch indicates that there is corrosion present. I know this is a well known problem with the RRC but the strange thing is when scrutinising the underside of the arch there is no sign of corrosion & the re-enforcing plate looks to be original. The car has it's undersealing (Dinatrol applied twice over the past 10 years) checked annually & in fact has recently passed it's MOT. This gives rise to suspicion that the arch is double skinned, but watching the repair process on UTube leads me to believe that it is in fact a single sheet of steel.
Can anyone enlighten me on this before I purchase repair panels (Easy-On etc.) & look for a welder?
Thanks guys.

They're single skin with a reinforcing plate tacked on underneath. Water penetrates between the 2 & hey presto!
Unbolt the seat belt & pull the carpet off - it's glued on - to see how bad the corrosion is.
You can buy the bits from Easy On & others but it's only sheet steel & your welder might be happy making up his own.
Done both of mine - I do my own welding - & that's what I did.

Have you pulled the carpet up?

Sorry, I could have sworn I'd replied but cannot find the post.
No not yet, to be truthful I'm waiting for better weather & a teeny-weeny bit apprehensive as to what I'll find
Must get the work done before mid April though, as that's when the car goes in for it's next five yearly anti-corrosion treatment.

Be careful with under seals, if you trap moisture under them when sealed, you rot the steel without ever seeing it. Press the seal on in the area you suspect the rust to be, or have someone watch when you press from the inside. It'll most likely look like something from Aliens.

Daft question to the wise ones if I may plse

watching the first couple of videos ref the floor, I wonder if the bottom of it should of been treated first with something like Dinitrol and if some kind of sealant put round the edge first before the floor went down

don’t get me wrong not critiquing just wondering

many thks as always

How many treatments have you had? I would be thinking of a refund.
