Wheel alignment woes

Four wheel Aliment is for cars that have ajustable rear wheel camber.
P38 don't you can use a straitened length or string as a gaugeless standard setting as long as your steering box and drop arm is centralised correctly .

By adjusting the drag link to the correct toe with a gauge , and the box and steering wheel central and locked ajust until left wheel is correct then with tie rod the ajustment pulls the drivers wheel either in or out depending on what way the nut is turned when both wheels are correct tighten go for a drive to settle recheck .

Not done in that order. Track is adjusted first, then drag link.

I always centralise box and steering wheel lock it in position if that is central then thats aiming Straight then by adjusting the drag link your pulling the front of the left wheel in and out depending if you need to tow in or out once the left wheel is in its position ,by adjusting the tie rod can only pull the right wheel in or out at it is attached to the rear of the wheel and can only move the right hand wheel as the left is locked in position via the drag link in turn to the box and steering wheel that are locked in position once its correct and wheel is. Aligned retighten drive and recheck.

Not the way to do it, you are making life difficult for no reason. Track is done first, then with wheels straight ahead drag link is adjusted to centralise box.

I take your point but on most cars steering wheels have been moved and boxes changed so if they are out by miles then after you have ajusted your tie rod things can be way out and there is only so much ajustment in the drag link .
if its a car you familiar with then yes .

Tracking first, then drag link to centralise steering box, then steering wheel (if it's out). Wheel can only move in minimum 5 degree increments so it is permissible to fine adjust drag link to remove any small discrepancy. Steering box being central with wheels straight ahead is critical to prevent wander.
