OK can anyone tell me how much better the ride will be on my TD5 if I take the 20 inch stormers off it and put some 18 inch hurricanes with GG AT2 tyres please

Mmm, You are right about the stormers not being very practical and I do need to drop a few inches just like to look of the 18 inch hurricanes a lot more than the standard 16 inchers.
I suppose another 2 inches on the sidewall should improve things, the ones on it at the moment are 275/40/20 and they look like rubber bands and give about the same amount of comfort as rubber bands would.

I'm running 255/55 Wrangler on 18inch Hurricane (standard factory fit) with no problems what so ever.

How much better? You want a quantifiable answer?

It will be 23 betters.

Not sure what the measurement of better would be now you mention it that way, I suppose I was after someone who had taken 20 inch wheels off and fitted smaller ones telling me to do it because the handling and ride got miles better with the correct wheels and tyres.

I do like the 23 number though, any advance on that peeps

Road handling will get worse. Off road handling will prove so will comfort. Depends and what better is for you.

Cool, the 20 inch stormers seem a bit twitchy if I'm honest, not sure if this is the tyres or all Discovery 2's are like this, I have to say its quite unnerving sometimes

Off road improvements would be great for the caravan on wet soggy fields and an increase in comfort is a real winner in my book - Thanks

You could also go up to 255/60/18.
Slightly bigger side wall and will fill the arch slightly better andcalso make your speedo read spot on.

apart from road handling, I.E cornering, braking, accelerating. They will all suffer

I don't agree to be honest. I've had the lowest of profiles on other cars, and moved up to a slightly taller profile and had benefits all of those areas.

20s to 16s yes I agree with you, but 20s to 18s I think would be better for handling etc.

I had the 18s on mine recently and they're still very stiff and handle great. Was too hard for me but still softer than horrible 20s would be.

I am only using knowledge of track cars that have been lightened so on a heavy vehicle it may not be a sharp a change. I agree off-road will be a massive gain but on road once you hit the flex point of a tyre it will drop. 20" wheels are a bit big for an offroader you're talking 32" once you have decent tyres on top. And 40s on a 4x4 ouch that must feel like a cart wheel.

Cart Wheel LOL not a million miles away there

Well I've checked my spare and I think its a Hurricane alloy, well its 18 inch so I think thats the decision made I may just put a picture up tomorrow to make sure the wheel is what I think it is

Anyone want some Stormers??????????

Going to change mine from 18" to 16" as I need five new tyres and find the ride quite hard with current 255/55 18 fitted. There is also more choice in 16" and they are cheaper. Currently looking at 235/70 16 BFG AT.
