I have pushed mine to about 85mph on the speedo, it felt ok stability wise at that speed but the noise from the engine plus the thought of trying to do an emergency stop with std fender brakes and mud tyres made me think nah no thanks and I slowed down to 65-70. Plus I just got 3 points in my wives car and I really don't want anymore.

The issue is more how safe it is to do those speeds in a lot of Defenders, they're not meant for it tbh. Not taken mine very far since I put in a 1.2 transfer case but I'm sure it'll keep pulling strong past 90 if I were to try, used to sit at 70 and above no worries (apart from noise) with the old box.

But I wouldn't like to take it to those speeds unless the road was almost empty (disregarding the speed limit for a second ) and even then I wouldn't want to sustain it, suspension, steering and brakes not up to emergency action at those speeds IMO.

you have your anti sway bars removed then:rolleyes:

I've had to slam on the brakes at 50 and it was a brown trousers moment. Skidded a fair bit but thankfully held it. I very rarely go over 60 and make sure that I've got enough stopping distance, especially when its wet. As has been said they're not built for speed

Its amazing what a difference changing tyres make, I went from standard 235/70/16 Scorpion A/T that would nigh on push three figures in the Disco V8 but swap them out for 750-16 DeeStone Extra Traction and getting to 60 takes some getting used to.

Just had to do an emergency stop today in the 90 and boy did she stop, those big 110 CSW callipers just stopped me dead with no fuss at all. Not bad for a 23 year old Fender:)

Top speed is 113mph but only had it up to 85mph on a test track on my private country estate. Never gone above 70mph on the road because it would be naughty to go faster than 70mph.

When my tyres was new got it go 91mph on the sat nav

Now my types have been used off road for 3 years 65/70mph is a good speed

I have had my 110, 1990. 200tdi up to 85MPH on a couple of occasions. Normally I hold it at 70 mph when on the open road. I don't like pushing it to its max. I could probably get a bit more out of it if the road is long enough. What I have noticed is after giving it a blast it seems to run smoother.

I think its good to give things a thrashing once in a while, gives em a good clear through lol :D

Got 86 out of it using a GPS speedo, I could see the fuel gauge dropping alarmingly quickly..... (Lwt V8 auto)....
Don't know what scared me most... The cost of the fuel or the bonnet straining against the bonnet straps thinking..."if they snap I'm f**ked"

with my 2.5 na i prefer not to go over 60, but i've done 65 :p never pushed it to the max.

My mate pushed my 2.5n/a up to 65 with a Disco on a trailer behind us, we did have the wind behind us on the motorway but well impressed, she cruised at 55 no problem:)
