Whats the differences??? S2a / S3

Okay, Apart from the dash panel, what are the differences between a Series 2a and a Series 3 (diesel SWB)? The reason i ask is if I make a good Landrover out of 2 bad ones and wish to retain the tax free status of the 2A, what parts can I use from the S3 without compromising the 2A's status ?

not alot ,only last 2as had synchro 1st/2nd but either box fits the same apart from slave cylinder position

DYeah,thanks, I will be using the 2A engine and box, running gear, chassis etc but the 2A body is pretty well shot. I am trying to keep it real and dont want any trouble with insurance etc later on.

the only main difference with a series 2a shell and a series 3 is the front grille and wings as to where the headlights will be

And the radiator,bulkhead,windscreen surround,front panel,fuel tank,rear tub,bonnet but it will all fit from a series 3

im talkin astheticaly as in the most noticable thing to joe public on the street but you are spot on with the list you mentioned

This is very interesting, I thought they looked the same. Without being a bore, what exactly are the differences. I also see some 2A have the lights on outer wings and am surprised that the screen surrounds are different.

I've no room to talk really cos my 2a has lots of series 3 bits on it!
The s2 has 2 seperate wiper motors and they mount to the screen surround, s3 are mounted through bulkhead. The rear tub on a s2 dosn't have the fuel filler in it cos the tank is filled from under the seat.The bulkhead is totaly different,even the hinges aren't the same but will interchange. The s2 frontpanel has the holes for the lights so the shape of the holes for the air flow to the rad are different. The front wings obviously don't have the Headlights in,the indicator and side light are in a different place and the passenger side dosn't have a hole for the heater blower like the s3 as the s2 is inside.
The only really noticeable difference is the front end to someone that is not familiar with landys but the rivet counters would be able to spot it from a mile
