....of finding a Discovery VAN (Disco 1 probably) in decent condition, for a reasonable price? Are they a bit rare, or attract a premium, or all worn out due to being a van rather than car?

If you mean a Discovery Commercial, they do seem to attract a premium, do not understand why.

If you need a 4x4 stuff-carrier why not just buy an ordinary Disco and strip out the back and ply-line it - there's loads more to choose from?
