A friend has offerd me a 2.25 5 main bearing diesel engine, it was recondtioned by turner last year it has done 5000 miles.
What do you think I should pay for it?
Cheers Jon

I am not wanting to cut my series 1 about if i was about to cut it about i would be fitting a V8!! I asked how much you would pay not advice on what other engine i should buy! it has done 8000 miles. He has a receit from turner for 1895 quid. It doesnt smoke at all starts on button with no pre heat.
Does £350 sound a good price?

but the fact is i am not! the post is asking what do people think the engine is worth?! not what engine they think i should put in! I am replaceing what is there already with the same engine! its an almost orginal series 1 it doesnt deserve to be cut about!!! thats what my knakerd series 3 is for!
So if you read the rest of the thread you will see what the question acually was!
cheers jon!

ok love , dont drop your shoppin , try not to have an eppy?
you probably wouldnt have to cut anythin to fit a 2.5 , they are virtually the same motor.
how much? it really depends on how badly you want it , is it protected by a warrenty etc?
ive seen em go on gay bay for 30 quid or so in the past.

thers always the gmc diesel 6 litre v8 conversion , thats what id be slamming in there if it were mine.

When you fit a 2.5 in a series 1 you hav to cut airfilter/battery bracket off. Which i dont want to do. Cannot afford petrol i am a skint student!
Well he has a receit for it dont no about a garunte, he ended up paying over 2000 for the hole convertion last year. So me getting hole lot for £350 sounded ok!! i just want second opinion not wot other engine i should fit because as you can tell i alredy worked out what engine i want to fit!
An opinion would be great!
Cheer Jon

jon , if you can afford it , you dont mind payin for it and its what you want , go for it.
of course your other option is to look on flea gay for a 2.25 cheapish then work out if you can afford to frebuild it. parts aint that sexpencive and it would be a good learning curve to undertake.
of course the other option is to put a 2.5 diesel in there and cut a few thi ngs out , you can always re fit them at a later date if you so wished.
have you considered the 2.5 diesel at all? perhaps even a v8? i dunno.

I don't reckon £350 is a good price from a mate unless this engine is absolutely mint! in fact I would be tempted to ask him to agree to give your cash back if its a dog, at that price.

You can buy a running 2.25 diesel lump for less than £100 and give it an overhaul for another £100 or so and then you know everything about your lump at almost half the price.

At the end of the day you pay the price you are happy with, I have had an engine rebuilt that cost £1500 and it didn't turn out as good as my mates lump he bought out of the scrapper and put new plugs on.......its the risk you take.

Do what feels right but £250 tops!!!
