Just checking oil levels ect in my s3 diesel and found nothing in the radiator. I tipped about 1.5 litres of plain water in for now Looks like sombody tipped in fairy liquid.

It's been driving fine and acording to the temp gauge everything has been OK. It's never gone passed half way.

Oil is black with no white gunk.

The trucks a little smokey but still moving.

Is this normal?

Water pump seal gone or head gasget gone and blowing through to water channels is most likely.
Biggar was hoping something less serious.

Best way to check for each? I'm guessing a visual inspection for pump seal. Don't really want to take the head off just to inspect.

It's not been cold recently but don't leave it filled with watered down (or no) anti-freeze, a good frost and you'll have a knackered radiator too.

The head-gasket on series is fairly simple - make sure you get a decent quality composite one and borrow a known good torque wrench

To check water pump just look down below it for water leak.If head is blowing there will be bubbles in the overflow tank when motor is running.
