.... having the timing belt replaced?

A friend has my Lanny to replace the timing belt.
He mentioned that the front of the vehicle is partly dismantled to do the belt.
A penny dropped with me today; what else would be worth doing at the same time, rather than dismantling the front at a later date!

I've only had the vehicle a few weeks and other than I know it's recently had a service, I know very little about what the engine has had done to it over the years.

So, while the front is in pieces for the timing belt, is there anything you would replace at the same time?

She's a 300 tdi 110 CSW and done 128k.

timing case seal, tensioner, waterpump for sake of £40, check rad as fins rot badly, thermostat poss, alternator n ps belts.. depends on how far u want to go

ive had 2 waterpumps spring gland leaks shortly after being disturbed.. may or may not be connected, retap all bolt holes on waterpump as they tend to corrode... better safe than sorry, same with stat housing bolts

cheers steve

Sorry, I should say I'm no mechanic, so a what and why on any replies would be a great help!

Following a quick google ~ the 'P' gasket is to do with the water pump!
Would you recommend metal or fibre?
And thanks for the suggestion

the later"improved " gasket was the tin one use a little setting sealant like rtv silicone either side and a long bolt with head cut off or 8mm studding helps hold it in place while refitting

Lots to think about there Steve, thanks.
Just remembered, the radiator is new!

As far as how far to go, I've about £500 to spend if need be on mechanics and running gear etc.
I've other money I want to use on replacing rear seats for high backs, middle doors (they're past repair) re covering the front seats and welding front doors.

I replaced my timming belt ( reason for having the front off)
Water pump - unknown age
New belts - whilst your there
New rad - mine had less fins than a 1 finned goldfish!!!
Cleaned out the intercooler - had to be removed for the rad
fitted my natulis horn .
Check all pipe work and chassis.

As it stands, I think we're going with the belts, water pump and seals.
Oh, and we should be moving the horn/ alarm somewhere a little easier to get to!

Thanks fro the comments

Neil

She's back!

Timing bet done, we ended up replacing the following too:
- Crankshaft oil seal, there was a leak!
- Water pump, apparently it wasn't the worst that my mechanic had seen, but now done and hopefully will outlive me!
- Aux belt
- Horn/ alarm moved

Thanks for all the comments everyone.
Still got the issue with the brakes but not had time to fully look in to them!
